Experience all the
Colour, Culture & Creativity of
India
The Manning Regional Art Gallery
is launching the Inaugural Indian Film Festival that will be screening at the
Gallery with a major Free Day of activities on Sunday August 18. There is
something for everyone.
The day wills start off so
serenely with Yoga with a Bindi. Imagine doing yoga in an art gallery
under the gaze of some stunning very large major panoramic shots by noted
Australian landscape photographer Richard Green, who has captured the primitive
landscapes of the Kimberley and other remote areas of Australia. The yoga
session is suitable for all levels and free but bookings are essential on 6592
5455.
At 11am the doors and grounds of
the Gallery will open to a world that celebrates all that is Indian. Short
films from the Indian Film Festival will screen all day in the theatrette. In
the early afternoon there will be a live performance from Bollywood
dancer, Prafulla Parida from Natraj Dance Studios in Sydney while
displays will highlight some fascinating facts about the Indian Film Industry,
now the largest in the world which turned 100 this year.
Younger visitors will be able to
go on Indian Safari (Knowledge Hunt) learning about India or make
traditional arts and crafts. For those yearning to travel the Incredible
India Tourism Office from Sydney has sent a variety of displays and
material with some to shown on the big screen in the main gallery. India seems
to be on everybody’s bucket list today. But you won’t need to go to India for a
henna tattoo, or lessons on dying fabric or even how to turn the 6 metres of
fabric that is a sari into such an elegant garment. All that and more will be
at the Gallery this Sunday.
Then there is the tantalising
tastes and cuisine of India. Pandori Indian Restaurant from Taree
will be providing a range of dishes while Sumita from Port Macquarie is
well known for her vegetarian Indian food. Why not have a cup of chai and some
Indian sweets provided by Worldpartea who will be selling their
extensive range of ethical teas and organic Ayurvedic blends. The
Indian Bazaar along the front veranda will also tempt you with so many
amazing goods including the most exquisite items made from recycled saris.
To help you wind down there will
be stalls about yoga and Indian massage and why not pick up some soothing essential
oils, candles and incense. At the end of the day calmness will again prevail as
we are very e fortunate to be hosting Swamini Atmaprakashananda Saraswati
from India who is visiting Australian on a speaking tour organised by Advaita
Australia. Her flawless, systematic knowledge of traditional Vedanta and its
methods enables her to throw light on even the subtlest points with ease,
providing a complete clarity of understanding.
Yes you will be able to go away
from the day knowing so much more about India than you did before. But there is
more for this is just the opening day of the Indian Film Festival-Taree at the
Gallery which runs until September 6 with many free screenings of short
films and documentaries and three major film nights as well.
